Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, January 20th is a PA day for teachers. While teachers will be hard at work with assessment and evaluation this means no school for our students. Enjoy your long weekend!

Just a reminder to our Gr. 7 & 8 students that tomorrow is the vaccination clinic. Our public health nurses will be setting up in the library.
Parents – We have had a report of a student who has had an allergic reaction to the pods from the honey locust tree at the front of the school. The student had signs of a reaction on her hands and face after contact with the pod. As we look for more information about this possible allergen we have picked up all the fallen pods and have made announcements to the students about not touching or eating any of the fallen pods. We are asking that you reinforce this message with your children at home. As usual we thank you for your support.
Just a follow-up to the notice that went home with the students on Tuesday. There will be no school on Friday, December 23rd and we will be off up to and including Friday, January 6th. School resumes again on Monday, January 9th, 2012.
I want to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a peaceful and restful Christmas break. All the best to you and yours during this holiday season! See you in 2012!
Sincerely,
Mr. C. Mills
Our school has been registered for a fundraiser for the Ontario Student Nutrition Program called ‘Pass the Puck for a Buck’ and it is sponsored by the 2012 World Under 17 Hockey Tournament. Organizers of the tournament will donate $2 for every $1 raised by the school.
On Friday, Dec. 2nd. we will be holding a ‘Jersey Day’ at the school. Student Council will be making announcements encouraging students to bring in a loonie and wear their favourite jersey on Friday. Students wearing a jersey will be put into a draw to win tickets to games at the Vollmer Complex (USA vs Czech Republic on Dec. 29th or Atlantic vs. Germany on December 31st).
Hope to see you in a jersey on Friday.
Just a reminder that Cookie Dough and Muffin Batter orders will arrive at the school on Tuesday, November 29th. Pick up will be available from 11:00 – 6:30. Please be sure to pick up your orders tomorrow.
The Operation Christmas Child campaign wrapped up on Thursday with approximately 220 boxes being donated this year. This is over a hundred more boxes than were donated last year. A very special thank you to Mrs. Breshamer who has organized this very special event since it began three years ago. We had a number of newspapers come out to cover this story and a few of our students ended up in the pages of The Windsor Star (follow the link below) . Look for articles in The Amherstburg Echo and The River Town Times as well.

This is a shining example of just how generous our community is. We are very proud of our students efforts in this charitable work. Way to go Eagles!
Our students and families have definitely shown their generosity with the Operation Christmas Child and Can Drive donations. A reminder that the shoeboxes are due this Thursday (Nov. 24th). The can drive continues until the end of the month. With each can donation the students receive a ballot to vote for a staff member to have a ‘dance off’ at the Recognition Assembly on Nov. 30th at 9:15. The current vote ’getters’ are Mr. Rosati and I. Please keep those cans coming and vote for the staff of your choice!
Today in school many of our student’s chose to wear their pink clothing to support the anti-bullying campaign. I was proud to see many of our students wearing their pink shirts. Way to go Eagles!
Myth – ‘People are born bullies’
Fact – Bullying is a learned behaviour and behaviours can be changed.
Remember, you are not alone, it’s not your fault and you can do something about it!
Here is today’s myth and fact:
Myth – ‘Bullying is a school problem, the teachers should hand it.’
Fact – Bullying is a broader social problem that often happens outside of schools, on the street, at shopping centres, the local arena, online and in the workplace. Parents, students and teachers need to communicate and work together to eradicate this problem.
